Leica Camera AG is a name synonymous with the very best in optics and picture quality, so when they announced last year they would be releasing a new camera ~ the model “M” or “M240″, I decided I would save up and purchase my first full frame Leica.

Today is 27 years since the disaster in Chernobyl, Ukraine. 1986 seems so far away now but I can still remember seeing the news reports of foreign armies, fires, gas masks and talk of contamination in the air over England. The concrete sarcophagus that was erected in 86 to cover the dangers of the blown reactor and was predicted to last 30 years. Now, as we approach that 30 year mark this structure is constantly being patched up and monitored, the outer wall was at risk of collapse a few years ago and a massive structure was erected alongside it to keep it upright. Over the last few years the new containment has started construction, which is to cover the whole building of reactor 4, this will then allow the remains to be broken down and disposed of in a manner safe to the environment. Its been 4 years since I last visited the zone, as I have nothing new to post up now I will post my write up from firesuite.com here for people to read.
May we not forget those that lost their lives saving this planet from catastrophic global pollution.
I recently got hold of a Leica M9 and 35mm Summicron ASPH Lens (A very nice lady online gave me a deal which was too good to refuse) The waiting list for the new M240 would possibly take me into 2014 before I got my hands on one. I haven’t had much time to spend out with this new camera yet but I did get out in Pasadena yesterday morning and got this shot of the arcade on Lake Avenue, Pasadena. If this is the quality of things to come from this camera then I can hardly wait for more. Rest assured I will be out this week taking lots more shots in and around Pasadena and downtown Los Angeles when work permits so stay tuned, I’m very excited
This past weekend I was very kindly invited out by some fellow local photographers here in Los Angeles, to go shoot a sunset on El Matador State beach in Malibu. El Matador is one of those blink and you’ll miss it beaches along the Malibu coast, I myself have driven straight past it before while looking for locations out there, however this past weekend I actually got a chance to shoot down there, and oh, what a beach it is.
Its been a little quiet for me in recent weeks both online and photographically, as the (slightly
) cold spell continues here in Southern California I have been busy working through my stock of images and compiling what represents me best at this point in time as a photographer, during this process it became obvious that my website wasn’t up to the task of displaying the amount of work I now have to show, over the last couple of weeks I have been working on this and now present to you grahamgilmore.com Version 2.0!
My apologies but its been a while since my last post, I have been busy with work, life, etc. But more importantly for here I have been out shooting and also refining my editing skills and have been coming up with some satisfying images which I intend to show off in the coming days and weeks, in the meantime you can see one or two of my newer images along with some of my best in my new 2013 calendar which is now up for sale on redbubble.com.
For anyone free in Los Angeles on August 25th head on over to Petie’s place in Tarzana for a silent auction and raffle with proceeds going to the charity Autism speaks. Music comes from Jeff Iftekaruddin, Backbeat brawlers, Resurrect the machine and Ronny North with special guest Kelly Rhoads. MC for the day will be Byron Gaither from Hollywood’s Comedy Store.
Took a last minute chance yesterday afternoon and headed out to try and catch something of the solar eclipse from here in Southern California. Upon reading the local news I took thier advice and stayed away from beaches that were said to be crowded and possibly foggy and headed inland to a favorite hiking spot of mine called Echo Mountain in Altadena.
I have been spending more and more time in Pasadena recently, so this weekend I decided to take a trip out to the city hall here to snap of a few shots and see what I could find. Pasadena city hall is a beautiful mediterranean style structure that was built in the 1920′s. The building has been used in various movies and TV shows over the years including the mission impossible tv series and Charlie Chaplin’s movie “The Great Dictator”
